Cambodia is a Southeast Asian country between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, heir to the great Khmer Empire. Its heart is the Angkor temple complex near Siem Reap, the nation's symbol and the largest religious monument in the world. Beyond the ancient temples the country is shaped by the Mekong River, Tonle Sap lake, the capital Phnom Penh with its colonial architecture, and the Gulf of Thailand coast.

- Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda — the king's working residence with a throne hall and a pagoda whose floor is paved with 5,000 silver tiles.
- Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21) — a former Khmer Rouge prison in a school building, a hard but essential memorial for understanding the country.
- Central Market (Psar Thmei) — a 1937 art-deco rotunda under a great dome, selling everything from jewellery to souvenirs and food.
- Sisowath Quay along the confluence of the Mekong and the Tonle Sap — the city's main evening promenade with views of the palace.
Museer
- National Museum of Cambodia — the world's largest collection of Angkor-era sculpture, in an ornate red pavilion next to the palace.
- Choeung Ek Genocidal Center (Killing Fields) 15 km out of town — memorial to the victims of the Khmer Rouge, with a Buddhist stupa and audio guide.
- Museum of Cambodian silk and textile (Sosoro / Sleuk Rith centre) — telling the story of the traditional sampot and silk-weaving techniques.
