• Angkor Wat — the world's largest religious monument, the country's emblem and an essential sunrise visit.
• Angkor Thom and the Bayon temple with its Avalokiteshvara faces — the empire's ancient capital, just north of Angkor Wat.
• Ta Prohm — the temple wrapped in giant fig-tree roots, made famous by the «Tomb Raider» film.
• Banteay Srei — a miniature 10th-century «pink» temple with the finest red-sandstone carvings, 30 km from town.

• Angkor National Museum — a modern exhibit on the Khmer Empire's civilisation, handy to visit before seeing the temples themselves.
• Cambodia War Museum — military hardware and personal stories, with former soldiers often acting as guides.
• Artisans Angkor centre — a craft school and museum: stone and wood carving and silk workshops, with free open tours.

• A sunset from the top of Phnom Bakheng or at Angkor Wat's western moat — a classic close to a temple day.
• A trip to a Tonle Sap floating village (Kompong Phluk or Kompong Khleang) with stilt houses and mangrove forests.
• An evening on Pub Street and at the night market: street food, foot massages, craft stalls and Khmer barbecue.
