Cambodia is a Southeast Asian country between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, heir to the great Khmer Empire. Its heart is the Angkor temple complex near Siem Reap, the nation's symbol and the largest religious monument in the world. Beyond the ancient temples the country is shaped by the Mekong River, Tonle Sap lake, the capital Phnom Penh with its colonial architecture, and the Gulf of Thailand coast.

- Angkor Thom and the Bayon temple with its Avalokiteshvara faces — the empire's ancient capital, just north of Angkor Wat.
- Ta Prohm — the temple wrapped in giant fig-tree roots, made famous by the «Tomb Raider» film.
- Banteay Srei — a miniature 10th-century «pink» temple with the finest red-sandstone carvings, 30 km from town.
